Host - Selling on HausMart

+ WHAT KIND OF HAUSMART STORES CAN I OPEN?

HausMart opens a new world of opportunities. We have a lot of ideas but hope that our Hosts will use the platform to come up with brand new commerce ideas.

Here are a few starting thoughts:

  • A local essentials shop in your short term vacation rental
  • Avoid lines at your office cafeteria
  • Sell art at your coffee shop
  • Manage your farmer's market booth
  • Set up your child's lomanade stand

+ HOW DO I BECOME A HAUSMART HOST?

Simply download our app for free in the Google Play or Apple App stores. Open the app and select “Become a Host” in the menu. The app will take you through the steps for Host onboarding.

+ HOW DO I CREATE A STORE IN HAUSMART?

You register as a Host to be able to create a store. The app will guide you through Host onboarding, the last step of which is to help you set up your first store.

+ HOW DO I ADD A PRODUCT?

Once you have created a store, just click on the “+” icon at the bottom right to add a new product. There are three ways to add a product image, and we recommend that users scan the barcode of the product to find great product images when possible.

+ HOW DO I GET PAID?

HausMart uses PayPal for Marketplaces. The HausMart app will guide you through the registration. Every Host on the HausMart platform sets up a PayPal Business account to become a merchant and accept payments via PayPal, debit cards or credit cards. When Guests checkout and authorize payment, then the payment is disbursed almost instantly to the merchant’s PayPal account.

+ WHAT ARE "DISPLAY MATERIALS"?

Display Materials have the QR code and Store ID that enables Guests to enter your store. It also helps potential Guests realize that there is a HausMart store around them and that they can buy from it. You can request Display Materials for free from your HausMart store settings menu or the modal screen shown after you add your first product.

+ HOW DO I GET GUESTS TO MY STORE?

You either share the store ID or QR code. When you first create your store, we send you a HausMart card that you can print and/or share. You are free to create your own Display Materials. You are prompted by the HausMart app to request Display Materials from HausMart after you add your first product. You can also request Display Materials from the Settings menu in your store. We will send it to you for free.

+ WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE STEALS MY HAUSMART ITEMS FOR SALE? / WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE TAKES MY OTHER ITEMS THAT ARE NOT FOR SALE?

All Hosts are responsible for making it clear to their Guests which items are for sale in their HausMart locations. If a Guest takes an item that is not registered in a HausMart without the Host’s approval or takes a registered item and does not pay, it could be a matter of theft which should be reported to local authorities.

HausMart is not liable for goods stolen.

+ WHAT CAN I SELL ON HAUSMART?

You can sell anything you want - as long as it is not illegal. See HausMart’s policy for more details. HausMart empowers small businesses and entrepreneurs. We do not provide legal advice. Please refer to www.sba.gov/ for information about small business and abide by the laws applicable in your region.

+ HOW CAN I REFUND A TRANSACTION?

Open the receipt for the sales transaction. At the bottom of the screen, you will find “Refund this Transaction”.

+ WHO REFILLS MY STORE?

Hosts are responsible for refilling their HausMart store inventory themselves. There are many opportunities for Hosts to minimize the work associated with restocking.

For example, reviewing your sales in order to know what needs to be refilled, having extra inventory available for staff to refill, or placing high-use items on automatic renewal/fulfillment with your supplier. If you have someone who is providing cleaning service or something comparable, then you may want to have that person restock as needed.

+ HOW MUCH SHOULD I CHARGE MY GUESTS?

What you charge is always up to you! It is a matter of service vs. profits. There will be many factors to consider, including the type of customers you have and the products you are selling. You will learn quickly what works best for your Guests and can adjust accordingly.

+ I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY DISPLAY MATERIAS

We are printing these once per week and shipping out from Colorado with snail mail. If you have waited for more than 10 business days, then please contact us here to find out more.

+ I WAS SENT THE WRONG DISPLAY MATERIAL

Please contact hausmart@hausmart.com and include a short message with your store ID. We will get this sorted out asap.

+ 5 STARTER IDEAS FOR VACATION RENTAL STORES

Go ALL local! Show off the best of your area! Most Guests choose vacation rentals to experience a place like a local. Find your favorite local artists, jewelry maker, candle and soap maker, bakery, and brewery and stock their items with a note about why you chose to sell their goods. Go a step further and partner with favorite local service providers to make it easy for your Guests to find the best tour guides, hair salon, bike rental, or other service. Try prepaid local subway or bus fare cards. Let your Guests experience the best local flavor with your help!

Share Your Passion! Are you are a chocolate or coffee lover! Do you collect old books? Love pets? Know everything there is to know about fitness? Share your passion in your store! Have a dozen different types of coffee or chocolate available. Or a big selection of great pet items or your favorite leggings and workout gear. Share some information about your passion and why you selected the items you did. Share your knowledge and Guests will appreciate both the personal touch and be intrigued by your knowledge and commitment.

Stay on Target! Why do Guests choose your property? What are they doing during their stay and what would they want or need? Does your mountain cabin primarily cater to snow skiers? Stock some great snow gear, plenty of hand and feet warmers, quick energy snacks for the slopes. Is your property in the French Quarter in New Orleans? Beads and a local guide book! Beach house for families with kids? Sunscreen, towels and some fun souvenirs are a natural! Think about who your Guests are and what they would really appreciate having on site.

Go Big! Have you had a guest say they LOVE your Egyptian cotton sheets and asked where to get them? Now you can answer, “you can buy a set from me on HausMart!” Yes, convenience items like snacks and toiletries are steady sellers and should be available for sale (or complimentary). But you can use your HausMart store as a showroom for luxury living- furniture, furnishings, art, records, decor. Your inventory supplier can ship a new item just like they saw in your store to your Guest.

Be an Art Gallery! In addition to community and neighborliness, introduce your Guests to local culture. You can identify artists that you love and offer to sell their work through your property, either re-selling it or on consignment. Many local artists would love the opportunity to display and possibly sell their work. It gives you great art to decorate your property. And Guests discover local artists they never would have found otherwise. That’s a win, win, win!
